Assault By Physical Menace

Matthew Koontz, 27, of New Enterprise, was charged by state Police, Bedford, with assault by fear and physical menace for threatening a victim while holding a gun along Brumbaugh Road, South Woodbury Township, Bedford County, on Nov. 4

Criminal Mischief

State Police, Hollidaysburg, are investigating a case of criminal mischief that occurred at 215 Plum Creek Road, Taylor Township, on Dec. 24. Police said someone slashed the left front and rear tires on a 2002 Dodge truck owned by a 51-year-old Roaring Spring man. Anyone with information is asked to call State Police at 696-6100.

Burglary

State Police, Bedford, are investigating a burglary at a vacant house along Lafayette Road, Bloomfield Township, Bedford County. Police said unknown actors entered the residence on Dec. 16 by forcing open the basement door, stealing several boxes of household items that were being stored there by a 50-year-old New Enterprise woman. Police said copper wire was also cut and stolen and a small antique school desk was stolen. On Dec. 16, State Police, Bedford, served a search warrant at 1610 Ritchey Road, Everett. During the search the majority of the victims property was recovered. Charges against the suspects are pending.

Receiving Stolen Property

Matthew Koontz, 27, of New Enterprise, was arrested on Dec. 18 after multiple stolen firearms and other property were found in his possession on Ritchey Road, West Providence Township, Bedford County. Koontz was also in possession of prohibited offensive weapons, drug paraphernalia and illegally possessed firearms. He also attempted to resist police before being apprehended in a foot pursuit. He was charged with 11 counts of receiving stolen property and multiple other charges. He is in the Bedford County Jail.

Harassment

Larry Claar, 38, of Claysburg, was charged with harassment with physical contact on Dec. 30. Police said Claar slapped a cell phone from the victim’s hand during a verbal altercation regarding burning garbage on shared property in Kimmel Township, Bedford County.

Single-Vehicle Crash

Two people sustained unknown injuries following a single-vehicle crash on State Rout 22, William Penn Highway, Catharine Township, Blair County, on Jan. 9. State Police, Hollidaysburg, said a car driven by Tina M. Humphrey, 48, of Lewistown, was traveling east on State Route 22 when she lost control of her vehicle striking an embankment off the south shoulder of the roadway. Humphrey, and a passenger in the vehicle, Faye Y. Gearhart, 75, of Lewistown, were transported by AMED to UPMC Altoona. Humphrey was cited for failure to drive at a safe speed.

Two-Vehicle Crash

No injuries were reported in a two-vehicle crash along State Route 30, Lincoln Highway, Bedford Township, on Jan. 8. State Police, Bedford, said a 2014 Dodge Ram driven by Viktor Rushchack, 42, of Agawam, Massachusetts, was traveling east on State Route 30, Lincoln Highway, when he attempted to negotiate a left turn to enter the Best Way Sunoco Station. While doing so he pulled out in front of a 2011 BMW driven by Steven J. Cover, 18, of Schellsburg, who was traveling west, causing the BMW to strike the rear of the Dodge Ram. The Dodge Ram sustained minor right-rear damage while the BMW sustained disabling front-end damage and had to be towed from the scene. Sydney G. Snyder, 19, of New Enterprise, was a passenger in the BMW. Rushchack was cited for a left turn violation.
