Claysburg-Kimmel utilized a consistently strong effort at both ends of the floor en route to a big 78-26 win at Northern Bedford in high school girls’ basketball action on Dec. 10.
The Lady Bulldogs jumped out to a 17-7 first-period lead and increased their lead to 21 by halftime. NB struggled offensively in the second half and could manage just eight points in the second half.
Emily Claar (23) and Megan Hartman (19) paced C-K in scoring. Olivia Locke (13) and Bailey Garver (10) also hit double-digits for the 1-0 Lady Bulldogs.
“I was very pleased with the way we started our season off with a nice win,” C-K coach Jess Veverka said. “We have things to fine tune but we are moving in the right direction.”
Ariel Reed scored 12 to pace NB.
“We have a lot of work to do and improvement to make,” first-year NB coach Jon Ewart said. “I felt we played defense well early in the game and that is a positive we can take from tonight.”
C-K took the junior varsity game 57-18. Rebekkah Claar had 13 points to lead C-K.
Fannett-Metal 58, NB 30
Northern Bedford fell to 0-3 with a 58-30 road loss at Fannett-Metal last Thursday night, Dec. 13.
The Lady Panthers were down 15-10 after one period and 28-16 at the half before a big F-M third quarter put the game away.
Madison Cottle had 12 points to pace NB.
“We are struggling with turnovers and entry passes to get our offense going,” NB coach Jon Ewart said.
F-M also took a 46-29 win in the junior varsity game.
