The Central Lady Dragons split a pair of Mountain Conference contests last week, evening their record at 2-2 early in the season.

Penns Valley 55, CHS 41

On Dec. 10, the Lady Dragons hosted Penns Valley, although the game was moved to Penn State Altoona as the Central gym is still under construction.

The Lady Rams (2-0) used a strong defensive effort to hold the Lady Dragons to single digits in each of the first three quarters before settling for a 55-41 victory.

Kylie Metzger had a huge game for Central, scoring 20 points while adding seven rebounds. Jenna Mock added 13 points and handed out seven assists in the loss.

CHS 23,BEA 22

On Friday, Dec. 14, the Lady Dragons traveled to Bald Eagle Area and joined the boys in a doubleheader clash. Defense dominated play as the teams scored in single digits in seven of the eight combined quarters.

Central led 4-3 after one stop and 15-11 at intermission. The Lady Dragons expanded their advantage to five points entering the final frame before BEA took a one-point lead in the final minute. Maddi Metzler converted a driving layup late in the game to decide the outcome.

Kylie Metzger paced the team with seven points, while Jenna Mock and Heuston added four points apiece.

“We‘re a little shorthanded right now due to injuries, and it’s been tough to score like we hope to,” Central coach Rob Mock said. “Our defense has to answer the call and that’s what saved us Friday night. I give our girls credit for finding a way to win.”
