The Pennsylvania Board of Game Commissioners today gave preliminary approval to a host of changes that will improve the efficiency and effectiveness of the Agricultural Deer Control Program, better known as the Red Tag Program, which helps farmers address crop-damage issues through the hunting of antlerless deer. Mary and Bill Burket are celebrating their great-niece Emma Weyant's success at the Olymics. Weyant is the granddaughter of Kay Weyant of Martinsburg. Trail cameras have become popular among hunters for locating game animals, especially deer. Cameras can tell users when and where deer are around. Hunters can then plot their adventures accordingly. Living in the Cove, I do most of my fishing on small streams. I have learned that I need to be stealthy in my approach to good fishing spots if I don't want to alarm the trout. Pennsylvania elk hunters in 2021-22 will be out there in record numbers. The 187 licenses available marks an increase from the 164 allocated the previous year. A record 56 of the 2021-22 licenses are for bulls. And the January late season, which in its first two years was open only to antlerless elk hunting, in 2022 will be open to bull hunting, as well. The Pennsylvania Game Commission has appointed a new director of the Southcentral Region Office in Huntingdon. The Southcentral Region includes both Blair and Bedford counties. Northern Bedford County High School made it to the PIAA State Baseball Tournament. The Panthers lost to Juniata Valley 9-6 on Monday, June 7, in the first round of the tournament.
