Fire broke out in the barn of Harker Farm along Dunnings Highway on Wednesday morning, Nov. 6. Martinsburg Borough Council is expected to hold the line on real estate taxes in 2020. Council on Monday evening, Nov. 4, approved a preliminary balanced budget of $863,7000. Real estate taxes will remain at 1.871 mills. If council adopts the preliminary budget during the Dec. 2 meeting, it will mark the ninth straight year that real estate taxes in the borough have not increased. Fire struck the Martinsburg laundromat Sunday night, causing significant damage to the laundry area and displacing a family from the second-floor apartment. No one was injured in the fire. The family living upstairs was not home at the time. Fire officials said the fire likely started in a dryer.
