‘Reckless Risks’ Associated with Doyle To the Editor: With 9 grandchildren and a son who is a police officer working in Blair County, I have been distressed with the rulings and performance of Judge Elizabeth Doyle. In one particular case, over the objections of the District Attorney she released a defendant with felony drug offenses forbidden to possess a firearm. After his release, he was arrested again for aggravated assault and attempted homicide for an alleged shooting during a robbery in Logan Township not far from my home. Our com...

  • Letter to the Editor

    Oct 19, 2023

To the Editor: It has been 20 years since my last letter to the editor in support of Elizabeth Doyle for Blair County Judge. I knew her then as an even tempered, kind and intelligent Magisterial District Justice and I valued her wisdom. Through the years, she has remained the same person I knew back then and I appreciate her integrity in the face of adversity. Much has changed since then. Our culture has exploded with issues unimaginable, including the fentanyl crisis, child abuse, murder, and corruption. Her record proves that she has been...

  • The End

    PASTOR LEE SEESE|Oct 19, 2023

The time has come to end the long series on the Gospel of John which I embarked on many months ago. For me it has been a good reminder of the life of our Lord Jesus Christ. I recently came to better understand that the gospel isn’t just the good news of how we are saved but also how we are sanctified and will ultimately be rewarded and glorified. Who Jesus is and what he did for us is something that should impact us every day. One of the best ways to serve him and know him is to understand who he is and how he lived. Certainly, some of the s...

  • Thought for the Week

    Oct 19, 2023

There is so much turmoil, unrest, and conflict in our nation and our world. We need a good leader, who will be able to bring us together, united for the good of all. As you might expect, I do not think there is a human who can provide this. Each of us has a personal agenda that overrides our judgment about what is good for the other person. It is true for me too so I am not simply being critical of others. I wish and pray we would allow Jesus to be our Ruler. We can know from the Scriptural...

  • From the 'Burg to Your Kitchen

    NATALIE GORSUCH, Williamsburg Correspondent|Oct 19, 2023

It’s apple season! Apples always take me back to the first week of school and the old saying, “A is for apple.” Although that can be somewhat frowned upon in the new education system, for me, it’s a tried and true way to teach my preschoolers all about letter A. This year, several of our classrooms at Bright Beginnings have been busy making all kinds of apple desserts, and that got me thinking: I need a new cake recipe, and this recipe luckily fell on my lap. So delicious! Apple Spice Cake Ingredients: 4 medium Honeycrisp apples, peeled...

  • A Couple of PGC Items

    RICHARD TATE|Oct 19, 2023

My email inbox was recently bombarded with emails regarding a raid by the state legislature on the PGC’s Game Fund. An amendment to House Bill 1300 was approved by the State Senate that would transfer $150 million from the Game Fund to the state’s Clean Stream Fund. Proponents of this move said the money would come from the PGC’s pool of $525 million in unspent oil and gas reserve money. After the Senate had approved this move, it went back to the House for concurrence. At first this sounded like a reasonable move to assist in cleaning the C...
