This past winter I bought a pair of fly rods. I really did not need either of them, but for several reasons I wanted them. The first one was a Sage XP model, a model that is no longer produced. New, XPs were expensive rods that good flycasters (not me) could use to heave fly lines for long distances. I had once owned an XP. A fishing guide needed some money to buy a new bow for archery hunting, so he sold me the XP and another rod at reduced prices. However, after only a couple of years, he...
Williamsburg’s historic baseball season has come to an end. Williamsburg made it to the State Playoffs this year despite the odds being stacked against them. One of the main reasons Williamsburg was able to pull this off with the help of Head Coach Bobby McCall. McCall has decided to end his coaching career after 31 years. McCall, who has been coaching baseball in the Williamsburg area for 6 years, said it was a hard choice for him to make. He also spoke on the stresses that came with coaching. “We have always had low numbers,” McCall said....

Richard Brantner Sr. remembers it well. He was Williamsburg's police chief for just a few months when the rain and flooding began. He was 24 years old and had just gotten out of the Navy when he started as Chief of Police for Williamsburg in February of 1972. He was living on Spring Street in the borough at the time. "It was bad back then," he said of the days following the storm. The storm that brought the rain was named Agnes. It began as a tropical depression in the Atlantic Ocean, but...
Fifty years later, there is still no doubt that Williamsburg, sitting along the bank of the little Juniata River, suffered the worst damage from Agnes. But other areas of the Cove were impacted as well. The following accounts are from the archives of the Morrisons Cove Herald. Martinsburg – Martinsburg Borough Manager Joseph C. Beach said the worst damage in the area was a washout of a road leading to the borough’s reservoir on Lock Mountain. Area residents were also advised to boil their drinking water after a sample taken from the Mor...

The Dragons completed their perfect 27-0 season on Friday, defeating Lancaster Catholic in a game that didn't even go the distance. Central barely broke a sweat in its 13-2 rout of the Crusaders. Lancaster Catholic went with their ace Noah Zimmerman, who had a 2-0 record and a stunning .96 ERA heading into the contest. Zimmerman had also pitched every game leading up to the state championship....
After only five innings against the Lancaster Catholic Crusaders in the state championship, the Dragons left triumphant with a mercy-rule, 13-2 victory. With a state title on the line, the Dragons started out against the Crusaders with an offensive push. Paxton Kling was walked, but quickly advanced to third after a single by Jeff Hoenstine. Devon Boyles and Hunter Smith were both hit by pitches to score Kling, giving the Dragons an early 1-0 lead. Boyles headed the defensive front, pitching for...
