I was thrilled to find the five monarch caterpillars on milkweed plants in my garden. The caterpillars are in the second stage in the life cycle of the monarch butterfly. At the North Woodbury Township meeting in July, representatives from Spring Manor Mobile Home Park were present. Herb Fisher, owner of the park; Ed Bellock, engineer; and Scott Rhoades were there to discuss the expansion of the park. It has been 47 years since a land development plan was adopted. At the May meeting of the Martinsburg Community Library Friends, it was decided to display the quilt as soon as possible. Chances will soon be sold and the winner will be drawn at the Bash at the Bistro which will be held on Oct. 8. Tickets for the event will also be sold at the library for $25 a piece. Shown in the picture is the quilt that will be awarded at the Library Bash at the Bistro. The quilt was made by Jean Habinyak who lives in Martinsburg. She also donated part of the fabric. Materials and fabric were also donated by Zimmerman's Bernina Sewing of New Enterprise. The large quilt is 103 by 103 inches. Amanda Feight was a helper at the clothing bank in Woodbury at the old Woodbury Elementary School and kept thinking “what else can we do in this building?” She came up with the idea to open a used book store with proceeds going to the food pantry in the same building. The winner of the quilt drawing sponsored by the Martinsburg Community Library was Nancy Harris, who lives near Denver, Colo. There were 168 entries in the drawing which resulted in $1,680 for the library since the quilt was homemade and materials were donated by the Friends of the Library. Martinsburg's Cove Christmas Love project served 35 families and approximately 100 children this year. This was the second year that Martinsburg Memorial Church of the Brethren had been the host church for Martinsburg's Cove Christmas Love. Shaena Brantner, a native of Williamsburg and daughter of Charles and Nancy Brantner, started working part time at the library in November 2019.
