On June 17, the Southern Cove Power Reunion held a tractor pull. Due to the rain the week before, the track became muddy when the pull first began. With a little brainstorming, this problem was worked out and the pull was off. On Friday, June 16, Martinsburg Volunteer Fire Company once again held its annual ox roast. The group prepared 1,500 pounds of beef in one day and 1,000 on the other. The beef comes from Rhodes Meat Market. They begin cooking around 5:30 a.m. and finished around 10:30 a.m. Each day, beef and noodle soup and ox roast sandwiches are available for purchase. Cove Community Theater wowed the audience once again with its version of "Robin Hood the Musical." The diverse cast of children and adults kept the audience in stitches. On April 8, the Southern Cove Power Reunion grounds were alive with items for sale and interested buyers. People brought their machinery, wire, animal pens, and tractors to be auctioned off. On April 15, Plow Days and the first tractor pull of the year took place at the Southern Cove Power Reunion. The weather was unpredictable, but some plowing did manage to take place. Jim and Greg Clapper and Bob Reffner managed to do some plowing despite the off-and-on rain showers. In the past month Martinsburg Mennonite Church had two events to help to increase socialization and to support community restaurants. On Wednesday, March 8, the group had lunch at 11:30 a.m. at La Fiesta Restaurant at the Blair County Airport with 16 in attendance. Woodcock Valley Lions once again sold its famous Swiss Steak Dinner, including noodles, corn, coleslaw, stuffing, mashed potatoes and gravy. Homemade cake was given for dessert. Lori and Scott Douglas of New Enterprise have been blessing New Enterprise with homemade luminaries for the past five years. Lori had decided she wanted to try this for New Enterprise just to bring some Christmas spirit to the town. Luminaries are made from cutting plastic milk jugs, adding sand, and placing a 3-inch candle in the middle of the sand.
